Our History
We were established in February 1988 originally as Wear Systems Pty. Limited.
Starting out in the small industrial area of Taren Point in the Sutherland Shire we quickly grew and moved to the manufacturing heart of Sydney’s inner city Marrickville in NSW. Our start up operations were mainly as a distributor of hard faced wearplate, welding electrodes and wires with some limited fabrication.
Seeing a gap in the market and knowing there was room for product improvement, we increased our fabrication. This lead to in-house research and development, eventually producing our own brand of wearplate.
By the early 1990’s we had evolved to a manufacturer, supplier and fabrication hub. This quickly saw the dynamics of our business as usual operations change and effectively outgrow our original systems title.
Wear Plate (Australasia) Pty Ltd was incorporated in February 1999.
A true reflection of what our core business, operations and trading functions had become, we started trading under this entity in March 1999.
At this time we also started to plan another move to what is our current location in the Unanderra Industrial Park. Being part of the Wollongong NSW industrial hub brought us closer to bigger industrial partners such as BHP and facilities of Port Kembla. In 2018 we moved to a bigger factory again within BlueScope at one of their Steelhaven sites within the Port Kembla Steelworks.
Not forgetting the spirit of intention towards ongoing research and development, we have continued this as an important part of our focus as Wearplate Australasia.
Our company is wholly Australian owned and operated.
While there have been opportunities to branch out, we have maintained commitment to local product, employment and development staying right here in Australia.
As a specialist wearplate operation, we built, installed and commissioned most of our plant and machinery. Our manufacturing process is enhanced by our ongoing research and development and responding to customers unique and individual needs to build upon our welding, cutting and fabrication capabilities.
Our core team at Wearplate Australasia are not newbies to the specialised nature of wearplate production. All of us have been involved almost exclusively with hard facing products since its incorporation, brining in valuable prior expertise and knowledge.
Despite the decline and difficult times of manufacturing in Australia, we have pursued a steady growth resulting from our commitment to provide competitive prices and quality product through efficient services and most importantly putting our customers first.
At the current time our production runs shifts to maintain operations 15 hours a day as standard and capacity to extend this to 24/7 shifts 6 days per week when demand requires it.
