fabrication

Wearplate is made using a unique fabrication process.

In simple terms manufacture involves application of highly abrasive resistant overlays to a mild steel based plate.

Wearplate is very different to other steel fabrication techniques in that it increases durability without potentially compromising the structural integrity of existing steel.

Traditionally wearplate manufacture was driven by the need to create a barrier through a protective  layer to combat wear. While that is still its most common purpose today, overtime specific grade overlays have emerged to target specific types of wear. These include high temperatures and fine particle dust abrasion.

Manufacture of wearplate is a precise and complexed process. Achieving quality finished product requires specific knowledge and applying this with ‘outside the box’ thinking to meet unique requirements.

Advanced skill and expertise across several manufacturing disciplines needing to work in cohesion for wearplate production include:

  • knowledge of raw material
  • understanding steel properties, engineering and sourcing
  • manufacturing logistics  and planning
  • CAD and CAM design
  • CNC programming
  • plasma cutting
  • boiler making
  • welding
  • quality control
  • testing, research and development

So who would use wearplate and what for?
