CAD Formats
We prefer drawings to be provided in DXF format as this is compatible with most programs used by our customers including mastercam and autocad. It is also important to ensure eMail attachments sent to us use html. Using a consistent file format reduces risks in important data, design elements and measurements being lost through conversions. It also helps us to move your job a lot quicker through verification and production readiness phases. Wearplate Australasia is currently in the process of implementing new CAD|CAM software that is more advanced and will help us increase efficiency of our design services. Other common and more modern file formats we may be able to support include DWG | wire | f3d| sol | skp. Contact us for more options and if you require our CAD design services as part of your requirements.
Fees & Plate Pricing
Blueprint Services
We understand that not everyone has access to CAD design software and its certainly not a skill requirement on the customer to bring great ideas for wearplate to life. That is why part of our expertise is collaborating with customers to translate their requirements into a blueprint. We have many times started with a ‘what if’ or ‘can I?’ conversation and rough sketch on a piece of paper. Fees are dependant on the complexity of your project and the amount of drawings required. As a guide prices start at $45 per drawing for our more basic blueprint services. This includes 2 minor revision adjustments per drawing. Further adjustments or significant changes may have design fees applied.
Design Fees
The design phase in readiness for production can be very intricate and time consuming requiring full focus of our senior staff. While we generally don’t charge fees for minor ‘tweaking’ that is reasonably expected in the verification phase of a customers design, fees may apply if these progress to changes in some circumstances: Design fees are dependant on the type of change required, how extensive and complex these may be. Prices start at $15 per drawing for small changes allowing for 2 revision adjustments. Revisions based changes submitted and not new or additional changes
Variation Charges
As much as we like to stay fluid and creative in the areas of business that allow for it, cost of materials, cutting and calibration of machinery means the actual manufacturing part of our operations is simply not compatible with an agile approach. Similar to the construction industry, our production relies on true waterfall methodology once a job hits the factory floor. This means opportunity for change is limited to requirements and design phases. Adjustments requested after this time are a totally different ball game and must be handled as variations. This is why we have a consistent and clear production lifecycle included on our getting the job done page. $ 28 $ 37 $ 75 $ 150 + $ 375 + the above schedule is not inclusive of any additional steel, fabrication or manufacturing that is required to complete your job with variations..
Variations can be costly not just to you but may also potentially impact other projects we have in production. We always do our best to work around these situations but the below schedule of variation fees may be charged in some circumstances
Schedule 1 cnc programming complete
Schedule 2 machines calibrated
Schedule 3 production started – adjustments possible in existing plate
Schedule 4 production in progress – adjustments not possible in existing plate
Costs of plate wastage unable to be re-used.
Schedule 5 production in progress – job cancelled
Costs of plate wastage unable to be re-used.
Plate Pricing We know, we hear you. It annoys us too when company websites don’t include their price list, but there are some good reasons why we don’t. Every single job that comes to us is assessed individually and priced accordingly through a proper quoting process. Many projects are unique and to specified requirements. However we still undertake this process for return customers with repeat wearplate orders. We need to assess a whole range of things to make sure we get the balance right between the best possible price and recommendations to meet your needs. Most importantly we don’t want to mislead our customers at either end of the pricing scale. Its actually not unusual to overhear Gerry on the phone to a customer saying ‘hey mate, if you wanted to do it this way I might be able to save you a few quid …’ Yep. True Story! We are a small business who understands small business.
Transport Costs We can organise transport of your product for you through our preferred provider. Costs will depend on the size of your job and where you are located in Australia. We can also sometimes facilitate direct local delivery for smaller jobs. Prices start at a low $15. Be sure to read more about our Transport options at the bottom of this page and let us know if this is something you require and where you are located so that we can include this in our quote to you.
Research & Development
We do a lot of our own in-house research and development and of course the cost of this is ours. The only thing passed on to our customers from our research and development is better product. This has always been a focus of the company right from the very beginning. You can read more about how we started on our history page. We also provide services such as running plate or trying different things for other companies undertaking research and development. Sometimes this is a collaborative venture and other times these are simply fee based requested services. Pelase contact Gerry regarding fees for this type of work or have a chat about a potential research and development project you would like to collaborate with us on.
Intellectual Property
Wearplate Australasia respects the intellectual property rights of our customers designs. While we may store and refer to them for repeat jobs as part of our information management requirements, these are on secure based servers and we do not inappropriately re-use or distribute.
Lead Times
We try to keep things moving and efficient without cutting corners. Turn-around times for your job depends on a variety of things: The old days of easily and quickly sourcing steel in the size you need, when you need it are sadly long gone in Australia. Currently we are limited to full containers only of each size cut steel. We do our best to forecast what we are going to need and have it readily available off-site but nearby. It doesn’t happen very often, but it can be an unpredictable market or there may be delays in delivery to replenish our container loads and switch these out. Our philosophy and approach is to be straight with you, realistic according to the requirements of your job and doing quality work. We prefer to under promise and over deliver rather than the other way around. One more thing to consider… if Dave goes all human on us and takes time off then we might need to add a day… or 2…
The better planned you are, the better planned we are! The more notice you can give us the better chance we have to meet your desired time frames.
Quotations
We like to keep things simple and get our communications to you quickly so we do most of our quoting over eMail. What we will include in our quotation is: Obviously we can’t quote things that we don’t know about or discovered after its been prepared as part of verification or as a variation: As a general rule what we don’t like to do is get bogged down in unnecessary paperwork and have this stop your job from moving. Where it is appropriate such as significant costs, total redesigns and large change requests we will of course reissue an amended quote. However minor changes and fees, last minute transport arrangements and of course cancellations of jobs in production will just be added to your final invoice Wearplate Australasia is also currently looking at improving and streamlining our quoting processes.
